Charon will never use your writing to “train AI.”

By that we specifically mean, Charon will never use your writing to build a machine that generates writing. Your manuscript will not be harvested, sold, or fed into any system to train it to generate better prose. Nothing you write here will ever help a model imitate you, compete with you, or produce a book for somebody else. That is the promise.

What “training AI” means here

When a writer worries about their work being used to train AI, the fear is specific and legitimate: that a book gets absorbed into a generative model which then writes in that voice, for anyone, forever, without credit and without consent.

Charon will never do that. Your work will not be used to build, fine-tune, or improve any system to generate prose. Not by Charon, and not by any company Charon works with. Your pages will not be sold, licensed, or handed to anyone building such a model. There is no price at which this changes.

Charon’s job is to tell you true things about your own manuscript: data-driven facts about pacing, structure, and other dynamics. Making those reports better may one day involve systems that learn to measure writing more accurately. A model that recognizes a scene break, classifies a beat, or scores tension is not a model that writes. It reads, counts, compares, and provides the result to the author it came from.

If Charon ever builds that, our commitment is:

• It analyzes. It does not generate. No system Charon builds or buys will produce prose.
• It serves the author whose work it read. The output is your report, not a product sold to somebody else.
• Your manuscript never leaves for someone else’s corpus. No provider gets your text to keep, and none may train a general model on it.

What Charon analyzes, and where

Charon reads your manuscript to give you something back: grammar and spelling, style reports, pacing, Story Shape, word frequency, dialogue balance, cast tracking. That analysis is arithmetic and rules.

• Grammar and spelling run on your own machine. The copy-editing engine is compiled into the page and works inside your browser. The sentence being checked never leaves your computer for that purpose.
• Reports and metrics are computed from your text by deterministic code: counting, measuring, and comparing. The same chapter always produces the same report. Nothing is generated, predicted, or invented.
• Today, nothing is sent to an AI service. As this page is written, Charon calls no third-party AI provider at all: there is no model endpoint anywhere in the product. What may change, and what cannot, is set out below.

Charon does not write for you

There is no AI that drafts your sentences, rewrites your paragraph, or finishes your chapter, and there never will be. That absence is deliberate. Charon is built on the belief that writing is the author’s job. A platform that writes for you cannot also credibly prove or claim that you wrote it.

What may change, and what never will

Charon expects to use AI for two things:

• The tedious parts of authorship. Filling in forms, drafting metadata, tidying structured fields: work that is chores, not writing.
• Deeper analysis of your story. Reports like Story Shape may one day be sharpened by a model reading your manuscript in order to tell you something useful about it.
• Possibly grammar, one day. Not planned and not on the roadmap, but if a model ever helped catch what the local engine misses, it would be opt in only and it would still only ever point at your sentence, never rewrite it for you.

This kind of analysis means a model may one day give you the option to read your text to produce your report. That is the one case where your writing would leave this machine. If and when that happens, these rules bind it:

• You turn it on. Any feature that sends your text to an outside provider is optional and off until you choose it.
• You are told. This page names the provider and what is sent, before such a feature ships.
• Never a machine that writes. Your work is not used to build, train, or improve any system that generates text, by Charon or by any provider we use. Providers are contractually barred from training on it, and we will not use one that will not agree.
• Nothing is kept to build on. Text sent for analysis is sent to produce your result, not to accumulate a corpus.
• It is never your prose being written. Analysis reads. It does not compose.

The training rule is non-negotiable: it is the promise the rest of Charon is built on, and it is not for sale at any price.

AI Signals and the Provenance Report

Charon records how your manuscript was actually written: the trail of composition, revision over time, and text that arrives by paste. That record is captured for every account from the first word, and the Author plan lets you view and export it as a Provenance Report.

AI Signals point at surface patterns that show signs of being machine-generated. It is not a verdict, and Charon does not use it to police, score, flag, or report writers. Nobody at Charon is watching your signals.

The provenance record exists to serve you: it is evidence you can choose to show, when a contest, a publisher, or a reader asks whether a human wrote the book. You decide if it is ever shared. Charon does not publish it or sell it. Any third party you choose to send it to is your own decision, not ours.

The companies that host Charon

Charon runs on infrastructure we rent: a database, a host, an email sender, a payment provider. They store what they must to do their job and are contractually barred from using customer content to train models. They are listed by name in the Privacy Policy. None of them is an AI provider, and none is permitted to train on anything of yours that passes through them.
